This is a fun-filled, relaxing weekend for those looking to experience more of the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of the country, but not keen on a challenging trek or strenuous activity. Participants will travel deep into Herzegovina on this trip.

Itinerary

Day 1: The late morning and early afternoon will be spent exploring Mostar, the former oriental trading centre of Herzegovina, situated on the Neretva River. After Mostar, the group will travel to the nearby village of Blagaj. Blagaj's highlights are the Buna Spring and the adjacent Ottoman house/ monastery. Buna Spring flows out of a 200 metre cliff wall and single-handedly feeds the Buna River. Blagaj's old town is worth taking a walk through. A newly built heritage trail makes for a pleasant 30 - 45 minute walk around the town - starting at the Tekija Dervish House. The Velagić house built in the 17th century is a beautiful example of Ottoman stone masonry. After lunch the group will find their way up to Podveležje, for a short comfortable walk through the old villages on the Podveležje plateau. The final destination for the day is Eco Motel Sunce, a true paradise on the harsh rocky terrain of Velež mountain. Dinner will be an organic meal with excellent Herzegovinan wine. The group can enjoy the cool air and quiet at the motel, and the warm hospitality of the host Ismet.

Day 2: After a scrumptious breakfast at Ismet's, the group will head off on a hike up to Velež, Mostar's gentle giant. The trail will be rocky and provide beautiful views of the surrounding areas, and will lead up to several traditional shepherd huts neatly tucked away, where the group will enjoy a picnic and the last warming summer rays of the sun, before departing for Sarajevo.

Cancellation policy

Cancellations made less than 4 weeks prior to the tour start date will lose the deposit; cancellations made between two and four weeks prior to the tour commencement date will incur a cancellation fee equal to 50 % of the total tour cost; cancellations made two weeks or less before the tour commencement date will receive no refund and incur a cancellation fee equal to 100 % of the tour price.

Total Walking Hours (low to medium difficulty): day 1- three hours, day 2 - three hours

What to bring: hiking boots are essential, one litre of water, personal hygiene kit, fleece/ jumper, warm winter gear and rain gear, towel, change of clothes (e.g. dry socks, t-shirt, underwear and trousers) and a small backpack.

What is Included: transport to and from Sarajevo, coffee and/ or tea, all meals ( one breakfast, two picnic lunches, one dinner and snacks), accommodation at Eco Motel Sunce (with en suite bathrooms), entrance fee to the Tekija and a fully-equipped and experienced guide.

What is not included: extra drinks during meals.
