Emin Fatic - Host and owner
Emin, the host, is a very interesting person. He was born and raised in the village of Umoljani. He has worked for more than 30 years as a weatherman on Bjelasnica, the oldest weather station in South East Europe. The weather station was built at the end of 19th century by the Austro-Hungarian Government.
Since the last four years, Emin has been running this small hut, trying to preserve the local culture and customs. He is also the founder of the Local Folklore Society, which keeps alive the traditional songs and dances of this region. He is also actively involved in protecting the wild and pristine Rakitnica Canyon, just a short distance from the village.
Emin together with his Folklore Group are keeping the precious customs and traditions of these highland communities alive. They have performed at many different festivals all over Europe.
The traditional way of life in the highland villages can be harsh and understandably the younger generations often leave the villages for the economic opportunities of the city. Your choice to visit traditional mountain huts as part of your travels provides these communities with alternative and sustainable income though your eco-tourism and ultimately means they remain in their ancient homeland, keeping customs, traditions, and folklore alive and well.
