About Us
Meet the team from Green Visions, we are your local connection in Sarajevo, and have been pioneers of the eco-tourism movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Established in 2000 as a joint (ad)venture between Bosnian, Dutch and American friends, we have become a leader in providing high quality, professional, and responsible eco-tours throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We are dedicated to providing local communities environmentally sound alternatives for economic development whilst preserving their precious lifestyles and natural heritage. Rest assured that your trip with Green Visions will not only be safe, fun, and fascinating - but that you will also be contributing to the benefit of the highland communities and the eco-systems they are so reliant on.
Youth is another group in Bosnia and Herzegovina society which we work with to motivate and get involved in tourism. Small scale niche eco and cultural tourism activities are new to Bosnia and Herzegovina, with very few people understanding its potential. Young people in particular lack the motivation and skills to develop activities in this rapidly growing and profitable tourism sector. In the next three years Green Visions, together with GTZ, will be assisting local youth groups and businesses develop tourism activities by youth for youth from all over the world.
The Vision
Our vision is to see the wilderness of Bosnia and Herzegovina preserved through both the establishment of legal frameworks and enforcement mechanisms, and through the raising of public awareness and respect for the environment and the vital need for ecological balance.
We believe that alternative means of development is key to the sustainability of Bosnia and Herzegovina's traditional highland life and the eco-systems that sustain them. Green Visions holds ecological awareness as the priority in sustainable development - be it in eco-tourism, organic farming, medicinal herbs, handicrafts, forestry, wood-production, livestock or other economic endeavours.
Who Are We.... and What Do We Do?
Green Visions is a group of young professionals dedicated to preserving the natural, cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the surrounding region. Our focus is people, water, forests, eco-tourism, biodiversity, and community development ‘with the earth in mind'.
Our team of experts aims to raise public awareness of the environmental problems they face in the region while offering viable solutions to the future growth and sustainability of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We have successfully offered a broad range of eco and cultural heritage trips, geared towards the individual traveller since 2000. We are one of the only companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina that provide active and cultural activities for the independent traveller.
Eco-Tourism
Green Visions is also an independent, environmental and sustainable development organisation, based out of Sarajevo. Our unique blend of environmental activism, responsible eco-tourism and community development has made us a leading authority on the need for an environmentally focused approach to sustainable development in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The concept was born for Green Visions when several former humanitarian aid workers began extensive hiking in the outback. The untouched, pristine nature inspired us all, and the dire situation of both the highlanders and the environment they are so dependent upon moved us to create Green Visions. To date we have guided thousands of guests to Bosnia and Herzegovina's most magnificent places.
Our aim is not only to promote eco-friendly tourism but to spur a positive image change of Bosnia and Herzegovina to our European neighbours. We have maintained a high level of quality customer service while adhering to their environmental principles of supporting small locally owned businesses and the rural communities surrounding them.
Since our establishment, Green Visions has pioneered the movement in creating the vision and action plan for eco-tourism development coupled with sound environmental practices. We have remained loyal to our ecological principles while pursuing sustainable means of growth. Green Visions has received media attention, both nationally and internationally for some of the areas mentioned below.
Environmental Protection
Environmental protection and eco-tourism often clash in developing countries. At Green Visions, we see the two as necessary partners in sustainable development. Our hand in hand philosophy requires strong environmental practices which we feel greatly enhance the responsible-tourism offered for our guests, and provide a healthy and sustainable economy for the struggling highlanders and rural population.
Green Visions has been very active in protecting Bosnia and Herzegovina's precious water and forest resources - two elements that have been extremely exploited since the peace accords in 1995. We believe that community activism and public awareness are key to promoting the most important issues that the environment faces.
Sustainable Development
As leaders in this relatively new sector of tourism in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina, we see ourselves as the pioneers of a movement that will set the stage for real sustainable development. Our focus is on the rural and high mountain communities whose populations have been severely depleted due to the war and lack of social and economic means of survival.
Consulting
The Green Visions consulting team is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's leading experts in the eco-tourism and environmental fields. Our experience in the field gives us a large comparative advantage to traditional consultancies. Green Visions takes a hands-on approach in the small communities to help create and maintain sustainable, eco-friendly economic development.
Over the years we have developed a harmonious working relationship with local authorities, institutes and community members. Our network covers the entire country. Green Visions specialises in research and planning for eco-tourism projects in rural and highland areas. Our aim is to identify and assess the natural and human resources in respective communities in order to create an action plan for the self-determined needs of the areas in question.
